Background
Daniel joined Case in January 2018 after completing three years at Bishop Burton College, where he studied Agriculture for two years and Employability for one. At that point, Dan felt unsure of his direction and lacked a clear focus. However, upon joining Case, he immediately felt at home and found comfort in the new environment. He chose to join the ICT department and Health & Wellbeing (Sport), both of which aligned with his interests. Dan quickly stood out as a respectful and independent young man, consistently displaying a helpful and positive attitude in the classroom.
Skill Development & Progress
Dan arrived at Case with solid foundational ICT skills and was able to complete all tasks and projects assigned to him. Over time, he discovered and cultivated a particular passion for creating football books centered around the Premier League, FIFA World Cup, and the Euros. These books are crafted entirely from scratch, combining written content, artistic design, and thoughtful layout. He has demonstrated great creativity and attention to detail in this work.
One of Dan’s major achievements has been learning to use Canva – an application that was entirely new to him. He now regularly uses it to design front covers for his football books and to create personalised calendars using photos from his holidays, along with designing the Case logo for our 40th Year Anniversary. His enthusiasm for learning is evident in his willingness to embrace new tools and challenges. Another recent example includes his contribution to Learning Disability Week, where he created a Street Art piece titled “Do You See Me?”
Dan also demonstrates strong independent learning skills. He often takes initiative, such as watching YouTube tutorials at home to expand his technical skills, for instance, teaching himself how to add rounded corners to tables in Microsoft Word. While he thrives in quieter working environments, Dan continues to adapt to the sometimes-bustling atmosphere of Case, even though noise can be a challenge for him.
Dan recently stepped into the spotlight for a photoshoot in the heart of Hull’s historic city centre, surrounded by its charming, cobbled streets. What started as a fun project quickly turned into Dan’s moment to shine – he fully embraced the experience with confidence and charisma. Striking poses like a pro, Dan let his inner model take centre stage, showing off a side of himself we hadn’t seen before. He absolutely owned it!
Impact & Future Goals
Looking ahead, Dan is determined to continue improving his design skills using Canva and aims to make his football books appear more polished and professional. A personal goal of his is to have one of these books professionally printed – a dream that Case may be able to support and bring to fruition.
Conclusion
Dan’s journey at Case has been marked by personal growth, technical development, and a growing sense of purpose. His passion for design, especially around football, has given him a creative outlet and a clear direction for the future. He continues to surprise and inspire those around him – not only with his ICT and design skills but also through his willingness to step outside his comfort zone. A perfect example of this was his recent photoshoot in Hull’s historic city centre, where he confidently embraced his inner model and had fun showcasing a whole new side of himself. With his dedication, creativity, and the continued support of Case, Dan is well on his way to achieving his goal of professionally publishing one of his football books. His story is a powerful reminder of what can happen when someone is given the right environment to thrive and express who they truly are.
