Thanks to the incredible generosity of Hull-based paper company GF Smith, the team at Grow with Case is now one step closer to becoming fully self-sufficient and even more environmentally conscious.

Funding goes a long way

In autumn 2024, Grow with Case was awarded funding from GF Smith to purchase a Jackery Explorer 2000v2, which is a portable power station, along with two large solar panels. This eco-friendly power source is already making a huge difference to the project, enabling the team to work more efficiently and sustainably across their plots.

A powerful new addition to the team

The Jackery Explorer 2000v2 comes with a 2042Wh capacity and 2200W output, giving the Grow with Case team a reliable, renewable energy supply that supports their day-to-day activities. The power bank has multiple charging modes, including AC, solar, car and combination options, making it ideal for outdoor use and remote working on the plots. Although the team aims to rely mainly on solar power, the unit can also be topped up at Case’s main building if needed, offering flexibility during the darker winter months.

Supporting trainees with practical, green solutions

Grow with Case is a horticulture and wellbeing project that offers valuable outdoor learning and skill-building opportunities for adults with learning disabilities. The project encourages independence, teamwork and a connection to nature through gardening, landscaping and sustainable growing methods.

With the new portable power bank, the team can now use battery-powered tools on site, such as electric lawn mowers, hedge trimmers and power drills. This helps to reduce physical strain on trainees, improves efficiency, and makes the gardening experience more accessible and enjoyable for everyone.

A few words from Sally at Grow with Case

“Having the Jackery will enable us to be eco-friendlier and more self-sufficient. We will have more flexibility with the equipment we can use, which will make life easier for the trainees, such as using an electric lawn mower rather than the manual rotary mower. During the colder weather we can now also power an indoor heater for our cabin as well as power the lights. Thank you, GF Smith, your funding has made a great difference to us.”

Looking towards a greener future

This latest addition to Grow with Case is a significant step towards our goal of delivering an even wider range of eco-friendly projects. Not only does it make the work on the plots easier and more comfortable for trainees, but it also helps to reduce the project’s environmental impact. This is perfectly in line with our wider values of inclusivity, sustainability and lifelong learning.

As the project continues to grow, the team at Case is proud to work with partners like GF Smith, whose generosity directly supports real change in the lives of adults with learning disabilities.
