Have you heard? The Great British Bake Off is back on telly!
And to celebrate, we have been recreating the TV bakers’ delectable cakes, loaves, and bakes as each weekly theme unfurls.
Each week we enter the `tent` for a friendly Bake Off…
It’s becoming somewhat of a tradition – every Tuesday, our Trainees don their aprons and enter the Independent Living Suite for their own friendly Bake Off. Then, instead of rating and sending bakers home – we stay to sample and enjoy each cake or loaf together.
We ensure that each Trainee is praised for their unique baking talents – whether they’re a pro-piper or a dazzling decorator – and everybody leaves the `tent` (Independent Living Suite) feeling confident, happy, and with a tummy-full of home-baked treats!
Why we LOVE baking
At CASE, we love to bake! Here are just some of the reasons why we bake so often…
We learn new skills
We feel accomplished afterward
We get to give & receive compliments – and cake!
We stimulate our senses – sight, smell, taste, and touch
We feel relaxed and calm while baking
We love fresh ingredients and homemade food
Bake your own: Simon’s Cheese & Onion Bread
We think it’s only fair to share one of our Trainee’s delicious recipes. This is just one of our favourites – they are all our favourites, and we would share them all if we could! To recreate Simon’s Cheese & Onion Bread, you will need:
300g flour
3 tablespoons of baking powder
3 tablespoons of sunflower oil
1 tablespoon of salt
100g of your favourite cheese – grated!
1 onion – chopped!
1 egg – beaten!
125ml of your favourite milk
If you are dairy intolerant (or vegan like Freya from GBBO), simply swap the cheese and milk for soya or coconut-based ingredients. We promise it will be just as yummy!
